  1. Hello Matthew, I haven’t lived in the Widnes area for over 12 years now and was brought mainly in Ditton but my mother lived in Anne Street growing up and loved St Marie’s. So attached was she that she still went along to the May Walks or Christmas services whenever she could whilst bringing up a family of six in New Street. I certainly get the impression that all old parishioners have the same feelings of attachment and applaud all of you for your work.

I have to say I wondered at times why such a fuss was made about the beauty of the church but have now seen the images following refurbishment. It is stunning. People I know in the USA who either lived in the parish or had ancestors who did so, are similarly moved and would be on the list for seats if they were able to attend.

I wonder if you could let me know of any regular opening times, so that if I can make a visit to Widnes, I can also see the real thing. Thank you for all your efforts and best wishes to all concerned.

    • Dear Eileen.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write and for your kind words about St Marie’s.

You can access the building from 10am till 4pm Monday to Friday. We occasionally open in evenings or on the weekend for heritage events and activities. You would be very, very welcome to visit us at any time.If you let me know when you’re coming I’ll make sure the kettle is on.

The St Marie’s Heritage Group are currently collecting photos, artifacts and stories for some new displays. It would be wonderful if we could include something about your mother. The Church obviously meant a great deal to her.

Let me know what you think. Hopefully hear from you soon.

      Matthew
